PresentationWhat Oxford Reading Club Made Possible – Practical Examples and the Effects
At Sagami Women's University Elementary School, all 3rd graders and above have joined Oxford Reading Club(ORC) . Classroom “English Time” on Friday mornings has been expanded to include extensive reading activities using ORC, and 5th graders held a "Let's be storytellers!" presentation using ORC at the end of the school year. In this session, we will share our experience of implementing Oxford Reading Club, the results, and our learnings.

PresentationBuilding a Brighter Classroom for a Better Future
The UN Sustainable Development Goals are a great source of material to help students develop critical and creative thinking skills, especially the nuanced thinking skills they will need when faced with choices that are not always clearly good or bad. In this presentation, we will explore ways to teach students about environmental impact, recycling, and repurposing. We will also look at some useful ideas and strategies to integrate the SDGs into your curriculum and introduce you to the new AI-powered tools for Let’s Go. Join us to learn how to make your classroom more engaging and sustainable with the Global Goals.

Plus and Buzz, and classroom activities to get the most out of story-telling in the primary classroom.

In 2010, he joined Kenmei Gakuin as Director of the Global Education Center. In addition to his teaching duties, he created the institute’s English education curriculum for its Kindergarten, Elementary, Junior, and Senior High schools based on the global standard CEFR. In his current position as Head of English at Kenmei Gakuin Elementary School, he teaches classes and preparation lessons for English proficiency exams with the aim that 80% of students attain CEFR Level A1 by graduation. Furthermore, in collaboration with universities, he measures the effectiveness of teaching methods on language learning using the Communicative Orientation of Language Teaching (COLT) Observation Scheme.
PresentationEffective English Education using ICT Tools
The English curriculum at my elementary school has been designed to provide a bridge to Junior High School. Using Everybody Up levels 1-4 with grades 1 to 4, and Get Ahead level 1 with grades 5 and 6, the classes with grades 3 to 6 begin with what the students learned in kindergarten. We aim to balance output and input, improve all four skills and self-expression, and utilize digital tools like ebooks and Online Practice to unite learning at school and home. We are developing pattern practices around the four skills that help students learn and improve their English naturally. In this session, I will demonstrate my teaching methods and suggest ways to make the most of teaching materials. Finally, I will share the results of what our methodologies have had on students’ TOEFL and Eiken tests.
