The oxygenates, including the many different alcohols, ethers, aldehydes, ketones, acids, esters, and nitrogen-atom containing oxygenates, are of special interest today due to their increased use as alternative fuels and fuel additives. This book describes the physical properties of oxygenates, as well as the chemical and photochemical parameters that determine their reaction pathways in the atmosphere. Jack G. Calvert is Emeritus Senior Scientist at National Center for Atmospheric Reseach. Professor Calvert has authored or coauthored approximately 300 publications in the scientific literature that relate to various aspects of photochemistry, reaction kinetics, and atmospheric chemistry. John J. Orlando is Senior Scientist at National Center for Atmospheric Research. His research at NCAR has focused largely on the determination of the mechanisms of the atmospheric oxidation of carbon-containing species, on halogen chemistry of relevance to the stratosphere and troposphere, and on the atmospheric chemistry of nitrogen oxide species. ; Abdelwahid Mellouki is Research Director at the Institut de Combustion, Aerothermique, Reactivite, et Environnement. Dr. Mellouki has been involved in a number of EU programs related to atmospheric chemistry and air pollution. Dr. Mellouki has been involved in a number of EU programs related to atmospheric chemistry and air pollution. ; J. Pilling is Professor of Physical Chemistry at the University of Leeds. His research is centered on reaction kinetics and includes measurements and modeling of elementary radical reactions and the kinetics of complex reactions, including mechanism construction and reduction.
