This book offers a new approach to a major modern American poet, situating his work in the context of contemporary painting, sculpture, photography, and music. Drawing extensively on unpublished writings, it tells the story of how American poets and artists reimagined art and literature for the post-war world. Featuring discussion of major poems, paintings, and pieces of music, the book offers a lively interpretation of the remaking of American literature and art after the Second World War.
