Understanding Mental Health Problems of Children and Adolescents is a practical guide to identifying, diagnosing, and treating mental health and substance abuse challenges in children and adolescents. In the book, Kirstin Painter and Maria Scannapieco take on ADHD, childhood trauma, anxiety disorders, oppositional defiant disorder, conduct disorder, bipolar disorder, the spectrum of schizophrenia, psychosis, and substance abuse. About the author: 

Kirstin Painter, PhD, LCSW, worked in the areas surrounding community mental health for over 20 years, most recently as Senior Director of Evaluation and Research. She is currently a Program Specialist in the Office of Research Sciences at the National Institute of Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research (NIDILRR) within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Maria Scannapieco, PhD, MSW, is Distinguished University Professor at the School of Social Work, University of Texas at Arlington and Director of the Center for Child Welfare. She has worked in the public child welfare arena for over 40 years as an educator and researcher. She has published over 150 articles and presented numerous times on Indian Child Welfare, the impact of child maltreatment, out-of-home placement, youth aging out of foster care, and the training and retention of child welfare workers.
