Ritsuko Nakata

Ritsuko Nakata developed her own method, the MAT (Model, Action, Talk) METHOD, a unique technique to get students speaking in natural English in a minimum amount of time. In addition to co-authoring the best-selling Let's Go series, she is president of the IIEEC Teacher Training Center, director of the IIEEC-OUP Teacher Training Certificate Program, advisor to Bunri Elementary School English Department, on the Board of Directors of J-Shine, and is a Specially Appointed Professor of Seibu Bunri University.

Key ideas for mastering the basics of teaching
To get the most out of learning (and teaching), it is important to do certain things in the classroom well. These things include teaching of new vocabulary, sentences and questions; these vital aspects for communication can be taught easily through lots of output and fun exercises that will get students talking to each other immediately in class. Ritsuko Nakata will illustrate effective ways to build student confidence through simple teaching techniques that are proven to work.

Setsuko Toyama

Setsuko Toyama is the co-author of the best-selling English Time series and a very popular teacher, teacher-trainer and presenter. She is a visiting professor at Keiwa College, conducts teacher-training seminars at Tsuda College Open School and works closely with elementary school teachers of PEN (Primary English in Niigata).

An MSc candidate and professional singer/songwriter with 8 years of teaching experience in Japan, Laurie is focused on how children learn, respond to and remember English when it is presented through rhythm and music.

Keeping young learners motivated, engaged and actively learning is at the heart of effective teaching. Music and rhythm are particularly effective in teaching English to children as they provide teachers with a natural bridge to learning through movement and physical engagement in the classroom. Laurie offers explanations for how and why music enhances learning and the learning experience and will show activities using music, chants and movement that work well for young learners.

Yoko Ishii

Ben Shearon is a lecturer at Tohoku University. He has taught all ages and has worked at elementary, junior and senior high schools in Japan. Currently, he serves as educational advisor to Nika Secondary School and Cambridge English, a private language school in Sendai.

Geordie McGarty has a background in American Elementary Education and over 10 years experience teaching English in Japan. He is the owner and head teacher at MoonTree English School in Sapporo and lecturer at Sapporo Gakuin University. He is currently pursuing an MA in Applied Linguistics.
